Through the Visiting Scholars Program, scholars, university professors and experts in their fields make a wide assortment of special presentations in Delaware classrooms, grades 1-12. They collaborate with schoolteachers to shape innovative custom programs. Student involvement is a key ingredient in all presentations, so programs often involve innovative activities such as role playing and artifact study.
This free program allows teachers to leverage another way to provide knowledge in the classroom, at no cost to the school. The heart of the VSP lies in the collaboration between teacher and scholar. When this collaboration becomes a true partnership, everyone benefits - teacher, scholar, and most of all, students.
Visiting Scholars topics are divided into two categories. Use the links below to access the index of related presentations.
Once you have found a topic you'd like to schedule, click on the scholar's name to access his/her contact information. You can also review our entire index of Visiting Scholars. Please see our Planning a Visiting Scholar's Presentation page for important requirements and deadlines you must observe when scheduling a scholars visit.
Once you have contacted the relevant scholar to determine if your schedules will mesh, use the Visiting Scholars Request Form (pdf version) to formally schedule a classroom visit.
The VSP was created and is administered by the Delaware Humanities Forum with grant support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the State of Delaware, and private gifts.
